Redevelopment of 1-7 Waterfront Place, Port Melbourne – Public Consultation
Council has recently received a request from Waterfront Place Pty Ltd seeking Council’s consent to approve a plan prepared by Fender Katsilidis Architects.
The submitted plan proposes the following:
Three buildings of five, 10 and 19 storeys.
A total of 241 dwellings comprising town houses, apartments and serviced apartments.
Vehicle access from Beach Street with three basement levels accommodating 430 car parking spaces, bicycle facilities and storage areas.
Retail and restaurant uses fronting Waterfront Place at ground level.
Publicly accessible leisure facilities including a gym and pool at ground and first floor levels.
A ‘Y’ shaped pedestrian plaza with pedestrian connections between Beach Street and Waterfront Place.
Council has 30 days to make a decision on the request for consent, which is by 27 December 2012. After the 30 day period, the applicant has 28 days in which to lodge an application for review with Victorian Civil Administrative Tribunal (VCAT). However this does not preclude Council from making a decision on the request for consent after the 30 day period.
The controls prepared in 1995 by Mirvac/State Government for this site vary from the normal planning processes and as a result there are no formal public notification or appeal rights for residents. However, Council is committed to hearing the views of the community prior to making a decision on the development.
