The event brings together local residents living in supported residential services, residential care or are supported through local age care and community services.

I now know that every year the senior residents in residential and aged care facilities look forward to this event. And I can see why. Lots of colour, fun and dancing. Last night was no exception, with all of the councillors joining in the fun. see more future activities below…

Scarecrow Festival – Fishermans Bend Reply

Today we went to the Scarecrow festival at Dig In Community gardens, Port Melbourne. If you don’t know where it is, think Murphy’s Reserve and next to the soccer pitch. Lots of people have plots here and they grow and tend their vegetable gardens.
There are chickens for eggs, mulching for fertiliser, and lots of great community spirit. Today the new stone pizza oven was being fired up for the first time, and the BBQ for the sausage sizzle.
Murphy’s Reserve and Dig In community garden are located in the Fisherman’s Bend area.digincollage

25 Years Old – Who would have thought you would survive for so long? Reply

Today, I was lucky to participate in the High tea celebration of 25 years of South Port Day Links(SPDL). A wonderful and inspiring organisation that helps make life better for so many people who are elderly or disabled. Just this year, 400 members of the community have been helped by SPDL volunteers involving over 1,100 trips in cars to medical help, shopping and recreational activities.

It is important that we all work with others to strengthen services that enable older people to stay at home and to provide more relevant, accessible and affordable services to those living with disabilities. This includes the other great initiatives that connect people through gardening, exercise, or caring for pets. Above all it is always about developing strong friendships.

The latest initiative is to raise money for a new car. If you are in a position to donate (tax deductable) contact SPDL on 9646 6362 for details.
