Webb Dock – what is happening… Reply

pomI thought I would check in and let you know what has been confirmed today with the development at the Port of Melbourne.
The model in this picture will be available at Port Melbourne Town hall for viewing.

With the new tender for the works being awarded to experienced VICTL – we heard today that the Port of Melbourne will be the most advanced container terminal in the world. VICTL want to make this their flagship project. This a good outcome for the community because of the following reasons:-
NOISE:- the cranes will be fully automated – no people means no beeping, ensuring a smooth approach for moving containers, no banging, and minimal reverse truck beeping.IMG_0217
LIGHTSPILL:- due to the Port being fully automated, there will be no strong light requirement, only ambient & environmental light. This ensures that there is minimal impact on the residential neighbours.
VISUAL AMENITY:- the colour scheme voted by the community was accepted and that was grey for the cranes. they will largely disappear into the background.
SUSTAINABILITY:- all equipment that move containers on the dock are electric. All systems for entry are paperless
TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT:- there is plenty of truck parking within the Port, which will mean that no trucks need to line up and park outside the Port area, clogging up Port Melbourne Streets and interfering with traffic.
Works are expected to conclude by Dec 2016.
The empty container park is located away from the closest residential point. It is anticipated that the Buffer wall will go along way to reducing noise from the empty container park. This area is not automated or managed by VICTL.
We are however, still waiting on VICROADS to advise satisfaction with traffic modelling presented by the Port, and assure everyone that everyday traffic will flow, in particular on and off the freeway.
More to come in a later post on what is happening at Perce White Reserve and associated adequate car parking.

It is important to acknowledge here that there have been a dedicated group of Port Melbourne community members advocating, to the Port, for the best outcomes for our Community for the last 2 years. It is because of this constant pressure and dedication that the Port Melbourne community is getting satisfactory outcomes. Thankyou so much.
